🌊 Greetings on International Fisherwomen’s Day – November 5 🌊

“Anchored in Struggle, Rising in Solidarity”

Today, we celebrate the first-ever International Fisherwomen’s Day, declared by the World Forum of Fisher Peoples (WFFP) — a day to honor the strength, resilience, and vital contributions of fisherwomen across the world.

The WFFP continue to confront the pressing challenges of the Blue Economy, Ocean Grabbing, Marine Spatial Planning, and Intensive and Industrial Aquaculture, standing firm in defense of the rights of fishing communities.

At the heart of our shared vision lies the recognition that fisherwomen are not marginal contributors — they are central to the life, culture, and economy of fisheries. 🌍

Across the globe, women make up over 50% of all fishwork, participating in pre-catch, catch, and post-catch activities that sustain communities and nourish nations.

Let’s stand in solidarity with fisherwomen everywhere — anchored in their struggles, rising together for justice and dignity. 💪🐟💙
